How it works
The total cost is the sum of all categories plus your emergency buffer percentage. Days are calculated inclusively (e.g. Friday to Sunday is 3 days).
Subtotal = Flights + Accommodation + Food + Transport + Activities + Insurance + Visa + Shopping + Other Emergency Buffer = Subtotal × (Buffer % / 100) Total Trip Cost = Subtotal + Emergency Buffer
Worked example
A $2,000 trip for 2 people lasting 5 days will cost $1,000 per person, and $400 per day total ($200 per traveler per day). If you add a 10% emergency buffer, the total becomes $2,200.
Limitations
This calculator provides static addition and division. It does not automatically fetch live flight prices or hotel rates. You must enter your own estimates.
Frequently asked questions
How much should my emergency buffer be?
We recommend a minimum of 10% for domestic trips and 15-20% for international trips to cover unexpected transport changes or medical events not immediately covered by insurance.
How does the 'Already Paid' field work?
It subtracts prepaid items (like flights and hotel deposits) from your Total Cost to show you the "Remaining Amount" you still need to save or bring with you.
