How it works
We use the standard IANA time zone database built into modern browsers to accurately calculate the local time, automatically accounting for Daylight Saving Time (DST) on the specific date you select.
Color Coding:
- Green (Good): Core business hours (9:00 AM - 5:00 PM)
- Yellow (Marginal): Extended waking hours (7:00 AM - 9:00 AM, 5:00 PM - 9:00 PM)
- Red (Bad): Typical sleeping hours (9:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
Worked example
If you have team members in San Francisco, London, and Tokyo, the planner will show that 7:00 AM in SF is 3:00 PM in London and 11:00 PM in Tokyo—highlighting why a 3-way meeting is extremely difficult and usually requires one party to compromise.
Limitations
You must know the IANA timezone name (e.g., "America/New_York") rather than just the abbreviation (EST/EDT) because abbreviations do not contain enough information to calculate daylight savings shifts accurately.
Frequently asked questions
Does this account for Daylight Saving Time?
Yes. The planner calculates the offset based on the specific date you choose. If you plan a meeting for next month after the clocks change, the chart will accurately reflect that.
